Have A Merry Merry: Holiday Cocktails With El Sativo Organic Tequila

By Resident Mixologist, Michael Misetich (@thelastbartender)

The best way to celebrate the holidays and the end of this tumultuous year is at home with your immediate family. Holiday cocktails are a great way to unwind and de-stress from what has been a trying time for everyone. If you are thinking heavy, egg-filled brandy cocktails of the past are the only way to celebrate, here are a couple of healthier options.

Not everyone thinks of tequila when they think of holiday drinks, but they should! Especially with the new fantastic, single estate, super premium tequila, El Sativo. Besides tequila being the healthiest spirit class available, El Sativo is 100% organic, Non-GMO, Certified Kosher, gluten free, and gives back to Ocean Conservancy with each bottle sold. This is by far one of the best tequilas I have had the pleasure of mixing. On its own you will find aromas of opulent bright citrus and sweet agave, and flavors that take you through a stone fruit orchard ending in an earthy peppery finish. This 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition Tequila Of the Year is amazing on the rocks, but is also the perfect addition to a Hot Cider, or a new take on a lighter, healthier version of the classic EggNog.

I hope these drink recipes inspire you to make your own holiday cocktails, and that this next year brings us all some of the relief that we need. Until then, please drink responsibly, celebrate safely, and as always, happy drinking.

El Sativo Cranberry Hot Cider

(Serves 4 glasses)

1/2 bag fresh cranberries

¼ cup maple syrup

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

4 cups unfiltered apple cider

12 cloves

2 cinnamon sticks

6 oz El Sativo Tequila

Splash of red wine

Muddle cranberries into cider. Add all ingredients (except for tequila and wine) into a saucepan and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Add tequila and stir. Add a splash of wine on top of each glass and serve, or if being served by the glass add one and a half shots per glass, and top with red wine.

El Sativo Holiday Nog

You can enjoy a healthier eggnog with an El Sativo Holiday Nog. I used almond, but feel free to substitute coconut, hemp, or any other type of Nog.

1 oz Kahlua

1 oz El Sativo Tequila

2 ½ oz Almond Nog

Add ice to the shaker, add ingredients and shake. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with nutmeg or a cinnamon stick. This drink can also be served on the rocks. Just add ingredients over ice and stir.

Happy Holidays!
